First month with your new dog
The first month with your new dog is when routines form and trust grows. This is the time to build good habits, strengthen your bond, and help your dog feel safe and confident in their new home.

Create a grooming routine
Brush or wipe once a week. Start early even if it’s not needed yet — so your dog gets used to the handling.
Introduce more toys and puzzles
Mental stimulation reduces boredom. Use food puzzles, snuffle mats, or DIY games to engage your dog’s brain.
Begin leaving them alone briefly
Prevent separation anxiety early. Start with short alone times (5–10 minutes), increase slowly. Always return calmly.
Handle gently daily
Touch paws, ears, and collar. A few seconds a day builds tolerance and trust for future vet or grooming visits.
Socialise safely
Focus on positive experiences: new smells, surfaces, meeting people at a distance.
Visit the vet
Schedule wellness check and vaccinations. Your vet will advise on vaccination schedule, microchip, and general health.
